Computer Science, Cornell University

The Department was organized in 1965 and is one of the oldest departments of its kind in the country. The history of the department, including major events and when faculty joined, appears in the CS Timeline. It has a full-time faculty of nearly 40, approximately 125 resident Ph.D. graduate students, 100 M.Eng students, and approximately 600 undergraduate CS majors, with around 250-275 students graduating each year. The University's staff, faculty, and students impart an uncommon sense of larger purpose and contribute creative ideas and best practices to further the university's mission of teaching, research, and outreach. Cornell University is an inclusive, dynamic, and innovative Ivy League university and New York's land-grant institution, its main campus is located in Ithaca, New York, a city of about 30,000 people in the heart of the Finger Lakes region. Both Cornell and Ithaca offer a wide range of cultural activities, sports, and outdoor activities with the pleasures of both city and country close at hand. Ithaca is Gorges! Cornell University also spans to New York City with its medical campus on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, and its new Cornell Tech campus planned for Roosevelt Island in New York City. Faculty positions that are based in New York City at the Cornell Tech campus which will be located in temporary facilities until moving to its permanent home on Roosevelt Island.
