Chair of Orthopaedics Department

Duke University School of Medicine invites applications and nominations for Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Candidates should have a strong background in academic medicine, including a track record of excellence in patient care, medical education, and research, and significant experience as a physician leader in an academic setting.

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Duke was created in July, 2010 from the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery. It has retained much of its divisional infrastructure with cutting-edge clinical care, nationally recognized graduate medical education, and innovative clinical, translational and laboratory research. The Department consists of approximately 60 clinical and research faculty and 55 residents and fellows. It is engaged in collaborative efforts across Duke University School of Medicine, Duke University Health System, and the entire Duke University campus, including the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Current extramural research support exceeds $3 million per year, making the department one of the leading programs in the country.

Duke University School of Medicine is among the top medical schools in the country, annually ranked among the top 10 schools in funding from the National Institutes of Health and in the top 10 schools by U.S. News and World Report. The signature clinical facility in Duke University Health System is Duke University Hospital, a Magnet hospital that consistently ranks in the top 10 nationally.

Candidates should have a MD or MD/PhD, academic credentials that qualify for appointment at the level of Professor with tenure, and be eligible for a license to practice medicine in North Carolina.
