ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT

Georgia State University (GSU) is a leading urban research University located in the heart of Atlanta, the cultural center of the south and a hub for health care organizations with national and international reach.  GSU leadership at the highest level is committed to growing the University faculty and reputation through a focus on interdisciplinary research and academic collaboration across the traditional academic boundaries.  As one of the first initiatives to be funded under this new strategic direction, GSU’s Robinson College of Business and College of Law were awarded an interdisciplinary cluster hire of new faculty (1 in the College of Business, 2 in the College of Law) around the research theme of the legal and ethical governance of businesses in healthcare, life sciences, and biotechnology markets.  Those hired under this initiative will have support at the highest levels of the University (President and Provost) to build a collaborative research agenda and strengthen cross disciplinary academic programs in a manner that enhance the reputation of the University and the participating Colleges.

This award builds on existing strengths and collaborations between the two Colleges. The Institute of Health Administration is hosted by one of the nation’s largest business schools and provides quality graduate programs for education, research and career development in healthcare administration and management. Our CAHME-accredited MBA/MHA and other degree programs produce qualified healthcare management professionals sought after by the healthcare industry. The law school hosts the nationally ranked health law program at the Center for Law, Health & Society.

In addition to the focus on interdisciplinary research with the other faculty hired under this cluster initiative, the person selected for this position will also play an important part in the future development of the Institute by complementing our existing faculty members from a research standpoint, helping to improve an already strong research environment, and teaching mostly at the Masters level. The salary level, course load and additional research support are competitive.
