Position Description: |
Postdoctoral Position in Data-driven 2D-based Materials The Department of Physics in the group of Dr. Chinedu Ekuma at Lehigh University (LU), is seeking an outstanding and highly motivated postdoctoral research associate within the area of electronic structure calculations and machine learning with applications to functionalized 2D-based materials. The successful candidate will develop and apply ab initio-based computational approaches to explore and exploit functionalization strategies such as defect-engineering, electrochemical intercalations, layer stacking for controlling and enhancing the properties of 2D-based materials. While the overarching focus of this position is the exploration of specific 2D functionalization strategies, the goal of this specific postdoc project will depend on the interests and qualifications of the candidate. We have a broad and flexible focus when it comes to the employed methodologies (DFT, many-body perturbation theory, machine-learning, and effective Hamiltonians and models such as the DMFT) the target properties (electronic, optical, magnetic, topological), and the potential technological applications (optoelectronic devices and quantum information). These areas will be covered by several interrelated PhD and postdoctoral projects. The group has strong connections to local experimental groups within LU and National Labs such as the Sensors and Electron Devices Directorate (SEDD) at the U.S. Army Research Lab. ALC, MD. Qualifications Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent in theoretical/computational physics or chemistry. The successful postdoctoral candidate should have a strong background in solid state physics and electronic structure calculations or in machine learning. The candidate should be proficient in Python programming. Good communication skills in both spoken and written English, are a requirement. Self-motivation is a desired skill. Salary and terms of employment LU offers a highly competitive salary package. The period of employment is for two years with the possibility of extension for a third year upon mutual consent. The position is available immediately and will remain open until filled. Application procedure Your completed online application must be submitted no later than March 31, 2022. The file must include:
