| Job Description: |
| The Physics Department of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology invites applications for a faculty position in experimental particle and nuclear physics. Currently the research groups in the Department have programs in most areas of particle and nuclear physics, including strong interaction physics, flavor physics and electroweak symmetry breaking, neutrino physics, tests of the Standard Model, nuclear astrophysics, and anti-matter and dark-matter searches. We are also initiating a program in accelerator science and technology. This search is broad in scope, so that applicants with research interests in any area of nuclear and particle physics are strongly encouraged to apply.
Faculty members at MIT conduct research, teach undergraduate and graduate physics courses, and supervise graduate and undergraduate participation in research. Candidates must show promise in teaching as well as in research. Preference will be given to applicants at the assistant professor level. More senior appointments will be considered only in exceptional cases. The application deadline is December 1, 2010. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, a brief description of research interests and goals (the latter not to exceed 3 pages), and arrange for three letters of reference to be uploaded. Only web submissions will be accepted. Any enquiries should be directed to Professor Peter Fisher, Search Committee Chair, fisherp@mit.edu. MIT is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. |
