Internal Search; Open to Michigan State University Faculty Only

Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean will work collaboratively with the Dean and the Assistant Dean to provide leadership for Lyman Briggs College on all academic, budgetary, and personnel matters. A primary area of responsibility will be professional development and mentoring for faculty and academic staff, and s/he will be the College's Faculty Excellence Advocate (see http://www.adapp-advance.msu.edu/faculty-excellence-advocates-feas-0 ). S/he must be a strong listener who welcomes varied points of view, enjoys finding creative solutions to perplexing issues, and supports the success of others. Consistent with the culture of Lyman Briggs, s/he must take a scholarly approach to his/her teaching, be committed to inclusive practices, and be comfortable in an interdisciplinary environment.

The Associate Dean will provide primary leadership in the following areas:

Professional Development of Faculty and Academic Staff:

* Oversight of matters related to reappointment, promotion, and tenure; annual evaluation; and post-tenure review. Assignment and assessment of mentoring committees. Program design for the annual retreat and other professional development opportunities.

* Appointed as Faculty Excellence Advocate under MSU's NSF-funded initiative for Advancing Diversity through the Alignment of Policies and Practices (ADAPP/ADVANCE) http://www.adapp-advance.msu.edu/.

Governance - Ex officio member of college committees for curriculum, awards, and inclusion. Cognizant of college bylaws in order to advise committees and faculty. Represents the Dean at Academic Council and Deans Council as needed. Liaison to other MSU colleges for a variety of projects.

Research - Supports faculty in pursuing external funding opportunities in a wide variety of scholarly disciplines. Represents LBC on the Council of Research Deans.

Budget and Finance - Advises the Dean and Budget Officer on budgeting and financial operations of the college. Member of the college's Space Assignment committee.

Advancement - Collaborates with the Dean and the Development and Alumni Relations Office on cultivating relationships with the college's alumni, friends, and donors.
