Position Description:    

The Ohio State University, along with the Center for Cosmology and Astro Particle Physics (CCAPP), is seeking a postdoctoral scientist to work on ultra-high-energy neutrino projects under the supervision of Prof. Kaeli Hughes. This position will include opportunities to collaborate on one or more of the following radio detection experiments: RNO-G, PUEO, ARA, and BEACON. 

Salary Range: $60-70,000 depending on experience

Responsibilities may include: 

  • Developing and contributing to existing simulation software packages, using C++, ROOT, and Python 
  • Developing calibration algorithms and integrating machine learning techniques as needed to improve performance 
  • Leading novel analysis efforts for neutrino searches Developing new hardware for radio-based neutrino detectors 
  • Traveling to remote locations (like Summit Station in Greenland, or the White Mountains in California) to install experimental equipment 
Necessary Qualifications: 
  • A Ph.D. in physics, astrophysics, or astronomy 
  • Proficient programming skills in Python and/or C++ 
  • Strong communication skills, including experience with scientific presentations 
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Experience in object-oriented programming 
  • Experience using standard particle astrophysics data analysis packages or libraries, including: scipy, astropy, ROOT, TMVA, fftw, pandas, and scikit-learn
  • Collaborative work style and a willingness to teach/mentor junior scientists 
  • A willingness to travel to the experimental sites for field campaigns
