The Department of Psychological Sciences at Rice University (Houston, Texas) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Human Factors, defined broadly to include Human-Computer Interaction, Engineering Psychology, Applied Experimental Psychology, and Human Systems Integration to begin July 1, 2022. The successful candidate will join the Human-Computer Interaction & Human Factors (HCIHF) program which is fully accredited by HFES and has enjoyed recent growth and strengthening within the department. The position requires a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, and job duties entail conducting a productive research program with potential to secure external funding, the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate psychology courses, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, and to provide service to the field, the department, and the university. Specialty area is open but should complement that of the current HCIHF faculty. Successful candidates will have a research program that integrates basic and applied research and contributes to the field of Human Factors, and has the potential to raise the prominence of the HCIHF program at Rice University. Program faculty are highly collegial and do research in a wide range of areas including HCI, usability, driving, health care, voting systems, visual performance, team science, and computational modeling. The Department of Psychological Sciences trains doctoral students in HCIHF; cognitive and affective neuroscience; health psychology; and industrial-organizational psychology. The department also offers professional Master’s programs in both HCIHF and industrial-organizational psychology. The successful candidate will join a department in an environment that nurtures research and scholarship, with many opportunities for collaboration within the department, across the university, and with the adjacent Texas Medical Center.
