Job Description:

The Department of Psychology of Rutgers University School of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a tenured or tenure track position in Clinical Psychology with an appointment beginning September 1, 2012, pending budgetary funding. Specific areas of research and teaching expertise might include but are not limited to underlying mechanisms, treatment and/or prevention of psychopathology, co-morbidity with physical health and clinical problems disruptive of daily function. We are also interested in candidates examining interactions among mental and physical health and candidates conducting translational research that is grounded in basic science. Preference will be given to applicants using the latest methods, both qualitative and quantitative (e.g., longitudinal studies, laboratory studies and randomized trials in clinical settings), to examine how current and past social and physical environments, health behaviors and biological factors affect psychopathology.

We hope to attract applicants who wish to benefit from and assist others by sharing ideas and establishing collaborations within and across departments. Investigators within the department of psychology cover a range of areas including: 1) behavioral factors affecting physical health and management of chronic disease (eating, exercise, sleep); 2) biological factors including genetic, neuroendocrine, cardiovascular, and immune/inflammatory processes; 3) cultural, social relationship and personality dispositions, related to life styles, problem solving skills and emotional phenomena, 4) psychopathology including suicidal behavior, eating disorders, and emotional/personality processes, and 5) communication and acceptance and adherence to life style change and treatment protocols affected by factors ranging from literacy and personal dispositions to social factors such as prejudice, stereotyping and discrimination. The successful candidate can benefit from a top-tier research university with a strong infrastructure, and links to the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology, the Center of Alcohol Studies, Rutgers units in Genetics, Medical Sociology, Exercise Science, Nutritional Sciences, Communication, the Center for Race and Ethnicity, and the multidisciplinary Health Institute. The Health Institute, with a newly completed Clinical Research Laboratory, provides access to a network of collaborating institutions including the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine, the Cancer Institute of New Jersey, the East Orange Veterans Administration, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and a number of health programs in the US, UK and elsewhere.

Psychology faculty are expected to develop and maintain active, extramurally-funded research programs, participate in undergraduate and graduate teaching and integrate students in their research programs. Salary, start-up funds, teaching-load, and other considerations will be consistent with the applicant’s level and with Rutgers' commitment to recruit and retain exceptional individuals with strong research potential. Rutgers is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer and is committed to increasing ethnic diversity of its faculty consistent with the extraordinary diversity of our students and residents of the State of New Jersey. Applicants should submit a CV, personal statement of research aims and teaching philosophy, representative reprints and 3 letters of recommendation to https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/971 . Applications will be reviewed as received and continue until the position is filled.
