*** this position has been closed and new applications are no longer accepted. ***

The Department of Physics at the University of Alberta (UofA) invites applications for a Quantum Horizons Alberta (QHA) Postdoctoral Fellowship in condensed matter theory, with a starting date in Fall 2024. QHA is a new donor-supported $25-million Alberta-wide initiative to pursue transformational research in fundamental and theoretical quantum science. The successful applicant will be formally supervised by Prof. Joseph Maciejko but will be strongly encouraged to also collaborate with other members of QHA and the condensed matter physics group. The position is a full-time 2-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal for a third year contingent on performance and mutual satisfaction. The fellowship includes a yearly stipend of $70,000 CAD plus supplemental health benefits. Research topics include strongly correlated systems, superconductivity, superfluidity, topological phases of matter, quantum criticality, and hyperbolic lattices.

The applicant must have a Ph.D. in theoretical condensed matter physics obtained within the last five (5) years, a strong background in quantum many-body physics, and previous research experience in theoretical condensed matter physics (analytical and/or computational).

Prospective candidates should submit a curriculum vitae (including a publication list) and a brief description of research interests through AcademicJobsOnline. Applicants should also arrange for three (3) letters of reference to be submitted by the letter writers through AcademicJobsOnline.

The deadline for applications is December 1, 2023.
