The Metaplasmonics group has been engaged in advanced nanophotonics, plasmonics and metamaterials. The group has recently expanded their interest to encompass research on quantum nanophotonics and we expect that this activity will expand considerably over the next few years. Tampere University of Technology is a leading research institution in nanoscience in Finland and hosts a well-equipped cleanroom dedicated to nanofabrication. The Metaplasmonics group has access to state-of-the-art optical spectroscopy and microscopy setups, a wide range of simulations tools and a broad academic network in the field of nanophotonics. The Laboratory of Photonics have extensive research activities on nanofabrication, design, and fabrication of optical components and devices, fundamental studies of nonlinear optical properties of new materials, interaction of ultra-short pulses with nonlinear media, and the development of new techniques for optical spectroscopy.

 Job description: The Postdoctoral project focuses on the interaction of the quantum emitters with epsilon-near-zero metamaterials. One of the first applications is coherent emission of quantum emitters. The other topic concerns entanglement. Depending on the applicant’s experience and interests, the work can expand the focus on the fabrication of the quantum emitter embedded in metamaterials. The successful candidate will be integrated in a team of students and senior researchers with competences ranging from sophisticated nanofabrication and optical analysis to theoretical physics. 

Requirements: The applicant should have a PhD degree in physics, materials science, engineering, or a related subject area. The successful candidate possesses the competence to pursue independent scientific work and the teaching skills needed to perform the duties of the position. The position is intended for recently graduated researchers, so that they may gain further experience and advance their careers. Experience of studying and working abroad and contacts to international research will be appreciated. The applicant should be fluent in spoken and written English and have a solid experience in quantum optics, optical analysis of dielectric and/or plasmonic/metamaterial nanostructures, nanophotonic simulation tools. Additional experience in, for example, nanofabrication, lithography, characterization, etc. would be meritorious. We are looking for versatile and independent persons with a solid background in quantum optics. Experience in the closely related area of the positions is expected. Theoretical traits for the analysis of experimental work and the ability to supervise M.Sc. and Ph.D. students will be additional benefits.
