Clinical-Track Professor Materials and Society Department of Materials Science and Engineering The Ohio State University Description: The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (https://mse.osu.edu)
invites applicants for a regular clinical faculty appointment who will lead a
range of activities centered on undergraduate education. This is a teaching-track
position, and appointment is anticipated at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.
. Appointment at the rank of Professor will also be considered when warranted. Activities
include managing and coordinating undergraduate laboratory activities,
coordinating laboratory staff support, ensuring that lab equipment is updated
(which may involve the pursuit of grants for lab equipment funding),
development, implementation and enforcement of safety guidelines and
procedures, and development and teaching of undergraduate courses with a focus
on experiential learning, materials selection, and materials applications in a
societal context. The candidate will be responsible for leading new initiatives
in laboratory instruction, class demonstrations, training TAs who can support
teaching of the labs, development and implementation of hands-on testing and
characterization of materials, and coordination of undergraduate student
employees to support the educational programs of the department. Maintenance of scholarship in engineering
education and outreach activity is expected.
The candidate will be expected to maintain a culture of professionalism
and ensure efficiency while encouraging creativity and curiosity in our labs
and classrooms. Qualifications: A PhD in Materials Science or equivalent field is preferred, but candidates with an MS degree plus experience will also be considered. The candidate is expected to have prior teaching experience with a proven track record of teaching excellence, and be able to utilize innovative and novel teaching techniques, and in particular, pedagogical techniques conducive to labs with large numbers of students. The anticipated start date for this position is August 2019. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
