The School of Optometry at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank in the area of vision research, with an expected start date as early as July 1, 2019. The scope of this search includes but is not limited to psychophysical studies of visual perception, visual optics, visual neuroscience, oculomotor studies of vision, clinical and/or translational research in vision science, application of data science to the visual system and/or visual processing, and applied vision research.

Candidates should have a PhD, OD, MD, or equivalent international degree(s), or be enrolled in one of these programs at the time of application. The successful applicant will demonstrate exceptional achievements in vision research and a commitment to excellence in teaching in both the professional (Doctor of Optometry) and graduate (PhD program in Vision Science) curricula.

The School of Optometry ( has outstanding clinical facilities, a large and diverse patient population, a Clinical Research Center, and many laboratories in the Vision Science graduate program ( conducting research in optics, ocular biology, clinical vision science, molecular and cell biology, perception, visual neuroscience, cognitive psychology, and computational vision. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to interact and collaborate with members of the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute, Berkeley Institute for Data Science, Redwood Center for Theoretical Neuroscience, and the Departments of Bioengineering, Computer Science, and Psychology.
