The Department of Psychology at Cornell seeks to hire a postdoctoral scholar in the field of psychology, or closely related fields. As part of an active learning initiative grant, the postdoc is expected to help in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of undergraduate courses with a special focus on active learning components. The postdoc position includes training opportunities by Cornell's Center for Teaching Innovation (with the option to receive teaching certificates). Core tasks will include the development and implementation of active learning components, tailored to a spectrum of Psychology undergraduate classes. Specifically, the postdoc will work closely with faculty instructors on one to two courses per year to develop novel and innovative active learning modules (ALM), prepare the necessary course materials and facilitate the implementation of each ALM. Other responsibilities will include supervising discussion sections, creating and conducting detailed evaluation of courses, identifying metrics of improved learning, and collecting, analyzing, and presenting data at international meetings and for publication. The position provides the opportunity to conduct limited non-teaching-based research, and candidates are encouraged to identify potential research mentors in the department of Psychology. The ideal candidate should be passionate about teaching, and teaching innovations. Candidates should have completed their PhD, and some prior experience with active learning is desired, but not required. Applications should include a current CV along with a cover letter that provides a short statement of teaching and research interests and contact information for three references.
