Position Description:

The Tadross Lab is seeking to hire a Visiting Assistant Professor. We seek a talented self-motivated candidate to spearhead projects at the interface between circuit neuroscience and engineering. Our vision is to develop novel yet easy-to-use technical innovations to enable profound conceptual innovations in circuit neuroscience. An example project is our recent invention of DART (drugs acutely restricted by tethering) [Shields et. al., 2017 Science]. DART is the first technology capable of delivering a clinical drug exclusively to a single cell type in the brain, offering the first opportunity to map the behavioral effects of a drug—one cell type at a time. To maximize the conceptual yield of this advance, our team has refined the DART technology and developed a suite of novel (unpublished) reagents, which offer unprecedented opportunities. In addition, we continue to innovate in parallel yet synergistic engineering domains, with the goal of shaping the future of circuit neuroscience and next-generation therapeutics.

We seek individuals with a PhD who are captivated by challenging questions, and have the motivation and drive to pursue a unique and independent career in neuroscience or biotechnology. Excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills are essential. Experience in behavioral neuroscience, neurophysiology, neuropharmacology, protein engineering, virology, electrophysiology, optogenetics, or quantitative imaging techniques are a plus. The most important quality is evidence of independent thought, productivity, and an ability to devise and implement novel solutions to challenging questions.

To apply, email curriculum vitae, list of three references, and statement of research interests and career goals to Michael Tadross, MD PhD (michael.tadross@duke.edu).
