Assistant Professor of Communication Arts
The Division of Arts and Letters at Benedictine University at Springfield, a liberal arts institution in Springfield, IL seeks candidates for Assistant Professor of Communication Arts, beginning fall 2013. The candidate will teach a wide range of courses in Communication Arts including many of the following: Layout and Design for Publications, Web Design, Multimedia Production, News Writing and Reporting, Digital Video Production, Public Relations Writing, and other related courses. The candidate will advise the student newspaper and mentor student interns. The candidate should display a strong commitment to teaching and student success at a liberal arts institution. The candidate should display strong skills in identifying and teaching at various student skill levels; strong skills in web journalism and new media a must.
Classification: Benefit Eligible
Duties: Assistant Professor will instruct a full-time load of twelve course hours, developing course materials that reflect current trends in teaching and research. Individual must demonstrate commitment to growth and development of the Communication Arts Degree Program and the Arts & Letters Division through recruitment, pedagogy, course development, assessment, and educational technology development, etc. Individual will serve actively and effectively on three standing committees. Must attend all Faculty and Division meetings; must maintain six hours of regularly scheduled office hours weekly. Assistant Professor will mentor students of all levels working with students to further develop strength and giving extra attention to assist struggling students; will support learning both in the course and outside of the program as it relates to the Communication Arts Discipline. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Terminal degree in Communications, Journalism, or New Media preferred; and professional experience in new media technologies required; teaching experience preferred.
