Tenured Position in Bioengineering

The P.C. Rossin College of Engineering & Applied Science (RCEAS) at Lehigh University invites applications from qualified individuals for a tenure-track faculty position at all ranks in the Bioengineering Department.  Areas of particular interest include fabrication, characterization, and computational modeling of advanced technologies and interfaces applicable to biosensors, wearable devices and diagnostics. This broad research area would support the design and development of devices capable of collecting health-relevant data from individuals or populations, providing the information infrastructure needed for health analytics. This growing field is aligned closely with the newly established College of Health at Lehigh University, and its foci on population health and on the biological and social determinants of health.

Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in a related field.  For full consideration, applications must be received on-line by 11/15/2019.  Rank will be commensurate with experience.  Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.  Candidates should submit: 1) a cover letter indicating areas of specialization and desired faculty rank; 2) curriculum vitae; 3) a statement of current and future research directions; 4) a teaching statement; 5) a diversity statement that describes the candidate’s commitment to an inclusive educational environment; and 6) name and contact information for at least three references. Inquiries regarding this search can be directed to Yevgeny Berdichevsky, Chair of the Search Committee, at inbioe@lehigh.edu.

Lehigh has made a long-term commitment to growth in Bioengineering, starting with the establishment of an undergraduate program in 2002, a graduate program in 2009, and the department in 2017.  Bioengineering at Lehigh developed from a multi-disciplinary program that drew its core and associated faculty from a number of departments, including Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Mechanical Engineering & Mechanics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, and Physics.  We have established a sizable new research facility, the Health Research Hub, and seek to expand faculty strength further.  New hires will be expected to interact with recently formed interdisciplinary institutes in the RCEAS, such as the Institute for Data, Intelligent Systems, and Computation (iDISC), and the Institute for Functional Materials and Devices (iFMD), as well as the new College of Health.

Lehigh University is a premier research university, consistently ranked in the top tier of national research universities each year. It is a coeducational, nondenominational, private university that offers a distinctive academic environment for undergraduate and graduate students from across the globe. Located in Pennsylvania’s scenic Lehigh Valley, the campus is situated on 1,600 acres in close proximity to both New York City and Philadelphia.  Through its Path to Prominence plan, the University is investing more than $250M on innovative new research and academic programs.  A new College of Health has been established as a part of this plan. The investments, based on faculty-driven initiatives, will advance the university’s mission and commitment to enhance student experiences.  These investments will include upgrades to physical plants, research and teaching laboratories, and technical infrastructure.  Lehigh offers competitive salaries and excellent benefits, including domestic partner benefits.  Lehigh University is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of age, color, disability, gender, gender identity, genetic information, marital status, national or ethnic origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, or veteran status.  Lehigh is committed to supporting an inclusive, equitable and diverse learning and research environment.  In 2010, Lehigh received an NSF ADVANCE Institutional Transformation Grant and has leveraged this grant to diversify and strengthen the professoriate in all disciplines.
