General Information

Chapman University’s Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences Department of Psychology seeks applications for TWO (2) non-tenure track full-time Instructional Assistant Professors of Psychology, beginning August 2020.

The Psychology department embodies Chapman’s mission of providing students with personalized experiences by fostering a community of teacher-scholars. The current average class size is 25 students per course, and instructors employ substantial in-class interaction, discussion, hands-on activities, experiential learning opportunities, and other innovative teaching styles. Faculty members often mentor individual student research projects, and Chapman currently has a system that allows faculty to apply research mentorship credits to earn teaching releases in future semesters or to earn additional pay.

Faculty members with a strong interest in teaching Research Methods in Psychology, Advanced Research Methods, and courses in their expertise area, are particularly encouraged to apply. The departmental Research Methods course involves students designing and conducting experimental or correlational studies, analyzing the results, and presenting the findings through an APA-style manuscript and conference-style poster presentation. The department also offers an advanced research methods course for students interested in developing more in-depth research or data-analytic skills.

Potential faculty may be interested in participating in the Psychology Department’s Center for Excellence in Biopsychosocial Approaches to Health, which focuses on teaching and research in health psychology. Faculty may also be interested in connecting with the Institute for Interdisciplinary Brain and Behavioral Sciences.
