Assistant Professor (Non-Tenure Track) of Composition and Speech

The Division of Arts and Letters at Benedictine University at Springfield, a liberal arts institution in Springfield, IL seeks candidates for Assistant Professor of Composition and Speech beginning fall 2013. The candidate will teach a wide range of courses in the General Education Core, including first-year writing courses and a variety of public speaking courses. The candidate should display strong skills in identifying and teaching at various student skill levels in reading, writing, and research. Preference will be given to candidates with interdisciplinary writing or writing across the curriculum experience, as well as teaching experience in a first-year writing program.
Classification: Benefit Eligible
Duties: Assistant Professor will instruct a full-time load of twelve course hours, developing course materials that reflect current trends in teaching and research. Commitment to growth and development of the Arts & Letters Division through recruitment, pedagogy, course development, assessment, and educational technology development, etc. Also, will serve actively and effectively on three standing committees. Individual must attend all Faculty and Division meetings. Maintain six hours of regularly scheduled office hours weekly. Mentor students of all levels working with students to further develop strenghts and giving extra attention to assist struggling students; will support learning both in the course and outside of the program as it relates to rhetoric and composition, writing and research across the curriculum, and speech communications. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Terminal degree in English, Rhetoric & Composition, or Linguistics required; teaching experience preferred.
