Research Associate

The Robert J. Margolis, MD, Center for Health Policy at Duke University has an opening for a Research Associate. The worksite for this position will be Durham, NC.

This specific research associate position will support Center projects with research, writing, and analysis with a focus on health care delivery and payment reform. He or she may collaborate on projects with a broad range of topics, including state health policies (including North Carolina), practice transformation in specialty care environments, payment reform by public and private payers, patient engagement, social drivers of health, and other topics. Primary responsibilities include conducting background research; drafting summary documents, blog posts, and policy briefs; and managing Center events and convening. This will include support for project activities through coordination, logistics management, and some administrative tasks.

Education/Experience Requirements: • Education and work experience requirements to be met by one of the following: o Bachelor’s degree and at least 6 years of relevant work experience. OR o Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., health policy, public policy, public administration, public health, health economics) and at least 4 years of relevant work experience. OR o Advanced professional degree (e.g., MD, PhD, PharmD, JD) and at least 2 years of relevant experience. • Training or experience in the fields of health policy, health care delivery, public policy, public health, health economics, data science, or patient safety is preferred. • Strong research and writing experience is required. • Proven ability to plan and organize content with attention to detail and creativity. • Demonstrated proficiency in policy research, including the ability to synthesize content from a broad range of sources.

Knowledge/Skills Requirements: • Excellent organizational and communication skills are required. • Interest in payment and delivery reform and health policy is required. • Familiarity with current trends and regulations in payment and delivery system reform is required. • Policy research skills, including the ability to synthesize content from a broad range of sources, are required. Data analysis capabilities are preferred. • Ability to interact with high level individuals and organizations is required. • Strong written communication skills and the ability to transform complicated information into easy to understand materials is required. • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced project environment with varied responsibilities. • Ability to coordinate a variety of tasks simultaneously and manage a project team effectively. • Ability to complete tasks with limited oversight and supervision. • Must have the ability to exercise good judgement and initiative. • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and relevant research and analytic software. • Ability to travel 10%.
