The Computer Science (CS) Program at Bellevue College is seeking qualified candidatesfor a full-time tenure-track opening in Computer Science.CS faculty performs duties and responsibilities under the general direction of the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and is responsible primarily to the Dean of the Science Division.

Tenure track instructors in the Computer Science Program have duties in both teaching and governance. Candidates should be committed to improving student education both directly (through high-impact and effective instruction) and indirectly (through service to the department, college and community aimed at improving student success at Bellevue College).This individual teaches courses that may include, but not limited to: Fundamentals of Computer Science, Data Structures, Programming Languages, Algorithms, Architecture and Organization, Computer Networks, Software Engineering and Design, and related undergraduate-level courses.

Annual salary is based on a 176-day contract with a minimum of $64,766.96; beginning salary will be determined by the assessment of the candidate's education and related experience.New hires cannot be placed above $69,446.14 unless exceptional circumstances prevail.

Computer Science program at Bellevue College offers both AAS and BS degrees in Computer Science:

AAS Degree in Computer Science:
CS students at Bellevue College complete mostly Math, Physics, Humanities, and Social Science requirements as part of their first 2 years towards a 4-year degree at a university for transfer. This is actually the AAS 2-year degree (90 credits) at Bellevue College. Completing this degree will prepare you to transfer to a participating college or university with junior status.

This faculty position will help design and facilitate learning experiences that facilitate a smooth transition for students, from the AAS degree transfer program into a BS computer science degree program.

BS in Computer Science:
In Fall 2016, Bellevue College received accreditation from the Northwest Commission for Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) to offer a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science The first full class of first year students admitted to the degree in Fall 2017.The admissionto BS in CS program is aselective and competitive process. Developing baccalaureate degrees is a fully integrated component of Bellevue College's strategic planning, which is reflected in the growing selection of baccalaureate degrees offered at the College.We invite you to become a part of this exciting progress!This is a wonderful opportunity to join our team and shape a budding program from its inception.

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:
Teaching responsibilities:
• Teach three 5-credit classes per quarter in the fall, winter, and spring; or an equivalent course load. Class sizes typically range from 28 to 36 students.
• Create and revise course materials, including varied assessments of student knowledge.
• Design and facilitate learning experiences centered on student needs and interests by using varied instruction methods and resources.
• Hold at least five weekly office hours and generally assist students one-on-one both through electronic media and in-person.
• Use data, self-reflection and student/colleague feedback to revise your instruction, improve student success and better serve historically underserved, underrepresented, or marginalized student populations (e.g. students with disabilities, student of color, first generation college students, LBGTQIA+ students, Veterans, English language learners, etc.).
• Grade and/or provide useful feedback to students in a way that promotes student understanding and improvement. Assign overall course grades.
Non-teaching responsibilities include:
• Participate in curriculum design, assessment, and revisions aimed at 1) improvement of course relevancy and 2) promotion of educational equity in the classroom.
• Engage in professional-development opportunities on-and-off campus to maintain currency in applications, research and teaching methodology, and to stay up-to-date on campus programs and policies.
• Contribute to the department through service such as textbook selection, curriculum design, feedback regarding department policies and procedures, program and course-level effectiveness assessments, mentoring of adjunct faculty, and more.
• Contribute to the division, college, and community, such as through representation of faculty and department interests on division-wide and campus-wide committees, and participation in campus-wide efforts to dismantle barriers that can impact underrepresented and historically marginalized student populations.
• Provide responsible and compassionate guidance and advising to students as they navigate courses and college systems.
• Contribute to Science Division outreach efforts in the community
• Perform other reasonable duties and functions may be assigned as needed

• Master's degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science or related discipline (must be completed by September 2020)
• Demonstrated ability to support learning, develop courses, use innovative teaching methods and fairly assess students work OR industry skills that show related proficiencies
• Demonstrated commitment to increasing inclusivity and closing achievement/access gaps with intentional curriculum and instruction design
• Effective oral and written communication skills

• Relevant industry work experience in a Computer Science field
• Teaching experience in higher education
• Experience in providing career guidance and academic advising for students
