Description: Under the direction and leadership of the Senior Director, Science and Technology, we are seeking a Full-Time, Permanent Senior Scientific Developer, Modeling & Algorithms to join our Spacelab department in Calgary, Alberta. The Senior Scientific Developer will be an experienced user of data and developer of models that power real-world solutions. The successful candidate is also an excellent communicator with the ability to closely collaborate with experts in other fields on interdisciplinary projects across the ATCO enterprise. The Senior Scientific Developer will be assisting project teams across the enterprise to create solutions related to data modeling, artificial intelligence, engineering, physics and mathematics.

Responsibilities • Keep up with latest industry best practices and evaluate the current state-of-the-art from the scientific and technological literature • Synthesize technical reports and literature documenting the identification, screening and evaluation of forward-looking technologies • Learn new technical areas quickly to support team's effort in all areas of interest to ATCO • Communicate technical ideas effectively to diverse audiences, often through succinct written summaries or presentations • Mentor colleagues with less experience to provide them with learning and development opportunities • Perform algorithm development in a dynamic, agile environment • Develop predictive models (statistical, physics-based) to explain behaviors of complex systems or perform optimization of solutions • Develop hypotheses, design experiments, implement tests and evaluate performance of solutions • Collaborate on algorithm development closely with engineering and modeling/data teams from business units across the enterprise • Communicate with senior management and external partners during execution of projects Qualifications • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, such as experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals, presenting research findings in conferences, or presenting findings to senior executives • Record of successfully working on interdisciplinary, industry-relevant projects in academic or industrial environments • Instructional experience is considered an asset • Ability to learn new methods quickly for a variety of topics relevant the enterprise • Knowledge of physics and engineering principles and understanding of business relevance and viability of technical ideas • Possess a fundamental awareness of enterprise, technology, developer, and design trends • Ability to locate and read relevant literature on different technical subjects • The ability to develop creative solutions for complex problems and deal successfully with ambiguity • Strong, tactful and collaborative non-authoritative leadership skills

Education and Experience • MSc required, PhD strongly preferred, in quantitative science (mathematics, physics, engineering etc.) • 3+ years in industry or working on industry-relevant projects

Technical Knowledge • Fluency in writing code (Python, MATLAB, C++, R, etc.)
