INTRODUCTION

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut invites applications and nominations for a nine-month Assistant Clinical Professor. The successful candidate will join a dynamic Curriculum and Instruction department and engage in a variety of tasks related to the implementation of our nationally recognized teacher education program, including but not limited to: teaching courses, cultivating and sustaining relationships at clinical sites, supporting the recruitment and retention of new cohorts of students, and being an active member of the department.

We are pleased to continue these investments by inviting applications for a faculty position in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the rank of non tenure-track Assistant Clinical Professor.

The Neag School of Education (https://education.uconn.edu/) is ranked in the top 40 among all graduate schools of education and in the top 20 among public graduate schools of education in the nation according to U.S. News & World Report. The Neag School offers programs and courses on the main campus in Storrs and at the Hartford, Avery Point, and Waterbury campuses. The Department of Curriculum and Instruction (EDCI) offers outstanding undergraduate and graduate programs of study for both pre-service and in-service educators.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate, guided by the Director and Associate Director of Teacher Education and working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and others in the Teacher Education Unit, will support the successful implementation of the teacher education program, including continuous program improvement efforts and student success initiatives, support accreditation and accountability efforts, oversee some administrative components related to the teacher education program, represent the Neag School to internal and external entities, make contributions through teaching, scholarship, and service as a clinical faculty member in the Neag School of Education, and perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Teacher Education, the EDCI Department Head, the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, or the Dean of the Neag School of Education.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a team of scholars who support the design, implementation, assessment of the Neag School teacher education programs.  This individual will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of the Teacher Certification Program for College Graduates (TCPCG) at the Waterbury campus, while also making contributions through teaching, scholarship, and service at UConn’s Hartford and Storrs campuses.

An integral part of the Neag School of Education, TCPCG operates out of three regional campuses: Avery Point, Downtown Hartford, and Waterbury. As part of this 11-month, accelerated program, TCPCG graduates earn Connecticut Teacher Certification and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction or Educational Psychology (for Special Education students). New cohorts begin every summer at all three campuses.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completed Ph.D. or Ed.D. in education or related area, at time of appointment; and
  • Classroom teaching experience at the elementary, middle or secondary level; and
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a range of education stakeholders, including teachers, principals, school leaders, teacher educators, coaches/mentors, and prospective teachers.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Direct experiences in and/or commitment to supporting student learning in culturally and linguistically complex settings;
  • Leadership experience in K-12 schools as a teacher or administrator with the potential to contribute to the ongoing support and development of partnerships between public schools and the Neag School’s teacher preparation program;
  • Knowledge of historical and contemporary state, national, and/or international trends in teacher education reform;
  • Success with developing field-based and clinical experiences for beginning teachers to learn from practicing teachers; and
  • Success with teaching seminars designed to support the learning of prospective teachers.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 9-month position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2020. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
