Position Description: |
A fully funded PhD position in gas-phase reaction dynamics is available immediately in the group of Andreas Osterwalder at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland. We study fundamental aspects of chemical reactivity and stereodynamics at less than 1 Kelvin using crossed and merged molecular beam experiments. Conditions are controlled by steering and state-selecting the reactants using electric and magnetic fields. These fields are also used to fix the orientation of the particles which in turn allows the study of chemical reactivity as a function of the relative orientation of the reactants.
The current position is for a project that targets fundamental energy transfer reactions and chemi-ionisation.
More information on these reactions and our work from the past years can be found in the references below and on our website, https://www.epfl.ch/labs/gr-ost/ For more information, please contact Andreas Osterwalder, andreas.osterwalder@epfl.ch. Applications should include a letter of motivation, CV, copies of relevant degrees, and the contact information for two references. References: [1] Osterwalder, Eur. Phys. J.
