INTRODUCTION

The School of Engineering (SOE) at the University of Connecticut (UConn) seeks qualified candidates for a non-tenure track position of Lecturer in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE).

The successful candidate will be expected to teach laboratory courses at the undergraduate level; serve as mentor for senior design teams; train, supervise and evaluate undergraduate assistants for teaching and research laboratories; contribute to outreach programs; and maintain laboratory equipment, supplies and safety protocols. The successful candidate will share a deep commitment to teamwork, effective instruction at the undergraduate level, innovation in teaching and mentorship, and work closely with CEE faculty to enhance experimental research activities. Successful candidates will also be expected to promote participation among members of under-represented groups and employ pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.

The CEE Department has strengths in Structural Engineering and Applied Mechanics (STAM), Transportation and Urban Engineering (TRUE), and Water Resources and Environmental Engineering (WREE). The STAM group performs multi-disciplinary research in advanced material and structural design, structural vibrations, and other related applied mechanics topics. The TRUE group works in conjunction with the Connecticut Transportation Institute to conduct multidisciplinary research in transportation safety, urban design and regional planning with emphasis on sustainable transportation systems and infrastructure, complex construction projects, transportation data systems, and geographic information systems. The WREE group performs multidisciplinary research in the areas of surface and groundwater hydrology, land-atmosphere interactions, hydrometeorology, contaminant transport and remediation in aquatic and soil environments, watershed biogeochemistry, solar and microbial fuel cell energy production. The CEE Department is home to 22 full-time core faculty members, 4 teaching faculty members, and 4 research faculty members. The Department offers B.S., M.S., MEng, and Ph.D. degree programs. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Earned M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution. Demonstrable excellent communication skills. Teaching experience for Civil Engineering courses as part of a team or as an independent instructor. Deep commitment to promoting diversity.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to effectively engage students in both large and small audiences. Teaching experience for Civil Engineering courses as an independent instructor. Experience with laboratory operations.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time (10-month appointment) as Lecturer within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The successful candidate’s primary academic appointment will be at the UConn main campus in Storrs, CT.  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Opportunities exist to support and participate in research projects and earn additional summer compensation.
