Research Associate (E14 pay scale)
This position is anticipated within the framework of the Hessian
Cluster Project "ELEMENTS" starting 1 April 2021 and limited until
31 March 2025, with the possibility for an extension depending on
available funding and mutual interest.
The institute for nuclear physics hosts 15 research groups with around
250 members working in the field of experimental and theoretical
nuclear-structure physics, nuclear astrophysics and laser and plasma
physics. It is one of the largest of its kind worldwide, with the
highest international reputation.
The Cluster Project ELEMENTS is a collaborative project of Goethe
University Frankfurt (leading partner), TU Darmstadt, JLU Giessen, and
the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy-Ion Research. It addresses the
physics of binary neutron-star mergers from gravitational waves to the
nucleosynthesis of heavy chemical elements and electromagnetic
signals. Relativistic heavy ion collisions, which help to explore the
physics of strong interaction under extreme conditions, are also
relevant to the project. The group leader also anticipates becoming
the spokesperson for the Collaborative Research Center-TransRegio 211
"Strong-Interaction Matter under Extreme Conditions."
The position is open for a researcher who already possesses a PhD and
postdoctoral experience in a relevant field and is prepared to pursue
an independent research program. The research program must be
important for advancing the goals of both the Collaborative
Research Center Trans-Regio 211 "Strong-Interaction Matter under
Extreme Conditions" (https://crc-tr211.org/) and of the cluster
project ELEMENTS. Specifically, the research program should involve
the thermodynamic and/or dynamical properties of strong-interaction
matter at extremes of temperature and density with applications to the
physics of heavy ion collisions and/or neutron star mergers.
Funds for travel and office equipment are available, and it is
expected that the applicant will apply for a fellowship which allows
the supervision of graduate students, in which case funds will also be
provided for a small research group. The fulfillment of the duties
likewise enables the scientific qualifications of the candidate. The
Technische Universitaet Darmstadt intends to increase the number of
female employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of
equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at
least 50 or equal will be given preference. Wages and salaries are
according to the collective agreements on salary scales, which apply
to the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TV-TU Darmstadt). Part-time
employment is generally possible.
By submitting your application, you agree that your data may be stored
and processed for the purpose of filling the vacancy.
To apply, please send a CV, list of publications, and a research plan
to the director of the institute, Prof. Dr. Norbert Pietralla,
gd@ikp.tu-darmstadt.de, with guy.moore@physik.tu-darmstadt.de in cc,
and arrange for at least two letters of reference to be sent to the
same address. Short-listed applicants will be asked to conduct a
(remote) interview. Please include the following code number
(Kenn-Nr.) in the subject line of your email:
Code No. 185
We will begin reviewing applications as early as 15 April 2021.
We will continue to accept applications after that date, until the
position has been filled. |
