*** this position has been closed and new applications are no longer accepted. ***

The University of Oregon’s Department of Psychology is establishing a new emphasis area in diversity science, hiring three tenure-track positions in psychology and one of them can be open rank. We are committed to building an interdisciplinary diversity science cluster that is integrated with and across traditional areas in our department.  Researchers from all areas of psychology conducting diversity science are welcome to apply, but there is a need for at least one of the three positions to be in clinical psychology or another closely related health services psychology discipline (i.e. counseling psychology; school psychology). Another of the three positions must be in developmental psychology, and is cross-referenced at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/19093 (please review for more details about that search; it is open to all areas of developmental psychology, with a strong interest in researchers engaged in developmental diversity science). Excellent candidates in diversity science will contribute to theoretically grounded, foundational research on topics such as (but not limited to) disparities in health and mental health, individual and community-based sources of resilience, development and socialization of identity and understandings of prejudice and discrimination, intergroup relations and conflict, or individual and structural bases of inequality. In addition, the clinical diversity science position will fill critical undergraduate and graduate teaching needs in the area of culture/ethnicity/race in mental health. At least two of the appointments will be at the Assistant Professor level, but one appointment may be at Associate/Full, and will begin in Fall 2022. Competitive candidates (Ph.D. required at the time of appointment) will have an active research program and be capable of outstanding research and teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels. We are especially interested in candidates who will contribute to the collaborative, interdisciplinary, and growing community of researchers across campus with interests in diversity science. We also particularly welcome applications from scholars who are from populations historically underrepresented in the academy, and/or who have experience working with diverse populations.

The primary goal of the Department of Psychology is to cover the entire field of basic psychological and clinically relevant research. Department faculty group themselves into four major areas: Clinical, Cognitive/Systems Neuroscience, Developmental, and Social/Personality. Our department values interdisciplinary collaborations and open science. We embrace basic as well as translational work with potential for societal impact. Applicants are strongly encouraged to address in their statements how they have pursued and/or plan to pursue these goals in their work.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, three representative publications, and three statements: (1) research accomplishments and future plans, (2) teaching experience and approach, and (3) personal contributions and/or plans to foster an environment of equity and inclusion for faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds. Three letters of recommendation will only be requested if applicants advance to further rounds of consideration.

Review of applications will begin by October 1, 2021, but for full consideration, please submit materials by Friday, October 8th.  All applications, including the cross referenced posting in developmental psychology, will be reviewed by a single committee; thus, please only submit one application. Administrative questions can be sent to Sheila Keen shkeen@uoregon.edu, and any other questions about the search can be sent to co-chairs, Maureen Zalewski zalewski@uoregon.edu and Jennifer Pfeifer jpfeifer@uoregon.edu. The positions will remain open until filled.
