The Department of Electrical and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Vermont (UVM) invites outstanding candidates for a tenure-track appointment in Electrical Engineering. We are particularly interested in those conducting research in the following two areas: (1) Energy and power systems including renewable energy systems integration, grid-interactive efficient buildings, IoT, and cyberphysical systems; (2) Solid-state systems including analog/digital VLSI design and semiconductor processes. Outstanding candidates in other fields of research synergistic to ongoing research and new initiatives will also be considered. Positions will be nominally at the Assistant Professor level; however, highly-qualified and experienced candidates at the Associate Professor level will also be considered. Candidates are expected to hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, and a doctorate in Electrical Engineering or a related field. The anticipated start date is Fall 2022.

Successful candidates will develop and maintain an active externally-funded research program, advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and contribute broadly to both undergraduate and graduate teaching in the Electrical Engineering program at UVM. The Department values interdisciplinary and collaborative research, as well as innovative approaches to an inclusive engineering education. Strong ties exist within UVM’s engineering departments, local industry (for example, GlobalFoundries, IBM, Beta Technologies, Dynapower, Burlington Electric Department, and VELCO, along with UVM spinoffs Benchmark Space Systems and Packetized Energy), and national laboratories (including a joint appointment agreement with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, PNNL). The successful candidate can leverage these opportunities. The engineering programs at UVM have seen significant recent growth in undergraduate and graduate student enrollments and research funding, and that growth has accelerated with the introduction of new programs such as the biomedical engineering and data science degrees. To support this growth, the University recently completed its largest-ever capital project with the construction of the STEM Complex.

The University of Vermont, established in 1791, is a comprehensive research university and is located in Burlington, Vermont.
