The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Washington invites applications for two Assistant Teaching Professor positions supporting the undergraduate BSEE program and/or the Professional Master’s Program. The successful applicant will be appointed as a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor in the University of Washington Electrical and Computer Engineering department for three years, with the possibility of renewal. The position begins in Fall 2022 and is a 9-month appointment with an opportunity to teach in the summer quarters.

About the Professional Master’s Program The Professional Master’s Program (PMP) is one of two master’s programs offered in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. This fee-based degree was originally designed for working professionals, but has since evolved to accommodate full-time students who comprise about 25% of our student population. The program features an exciting industry- responsive curriculum and is intended for students who plan to launch or continue their careers in industry.

About the Undergraduate Program UW ECE is ranked #11 in the nation in computer engineering, #20 in electrical engineering, and #4 in total number of bachelor’s degrees awarded in electrical/computer engineering. Nearly 600 students receive a robust education through a strong technical foundation, group project work, and hands-on research opportunities with renowned faculty in one of 40 department labs. A new curriculum is currently being designed to provide additional flexibility and new elective courses, focusing on systems principles, problem solving, and engineering design with a societal impact.

Responsibilities The Assistant Teaching Professor will teach two courses a quarter in the UW ECE PMP and/or BSEE program. Successful candidates are also expected to participate in program and departmental activities, train teaching assistants, serve on admissions and other departmental committees, and mentor students.

Qualifications This position requires a MS degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, candidates who have teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, including course development and instruction. Applicants should possess demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information and lead high quality undergraduate and graduate courses.

Other positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to candidates with a background in machine learning, signal processing, embedded and mobile systems, circuits, power electronics, and/or robotics. Highest priority will be given to exceptional candidates regardless of the specific areas listed above.
