Position Description: Postdoctoral Associate responsible for leading research on public policies involving Indigenous peoples and the environment

Duties and Responsibilities: The postdoctoral associate will carry out a self-designed research project in the general area of Indigenous peoples and environmental policies in North Carolina. Preferred research topics involve studying the educational experiences of decision-makers who engage with tribal communities in eastern North Carolina. The position requires knowledge of Native American / Indigenous education policies and practices in North Carolina and elsewhere as well as prior experience with interviews, surveys, and other qualitative methods. The individual is expected to lead peer-reviewed manuscripts and present research at scholarly meetings. Opportunities exist to develop quantitative skills related to geospatial and demographic analyses. The postdoctoral researcher will collaborate with students, other postdoctoral researchers, and faculty from Duke University and other institutions.

Other Duties: The postdoctoral associate is expected to participate in outreach and engagement activities in partnership with Native American tribes and communities in North Carolina or elsewhere. Example activities include developing policy briefs and presentations for tribal government officials, attending cultural events, and speaking to students at Native American-serving schools.

Qualifications: The position requires a PhD degree in education, public policy, or Indigenous studies. Prior teaching (or guest lecturing) experience is preferred.
