Description:

*** this fellowship has been closed and new applications are no longer accepted. ***

The Jefferson Science Associates (JSA) and Jefferson Lab (JLab) invite applications for the 2022 JSA/JLab Nathan Isgur Fellowship in Nuclear Theory, which was established in honor of the late Nathan Isgur who served as the Lab’s Chief Scientist from 1990 to 2001. The Fellowship award will be for a three-year period, which may vary under special circumstances. The JSA Initiatives Fund will provide additional support annually up to $10,000 for travel and research support.

The Nathan Isgur Fellowship aims to attract new talent to Jefferson Lab that can significantly enhance the Lab's capabilities in theoretical nuclear physics. The Theory Center at JLab has a very active research program in QCD and its applications in hadronic and nuclear physics, including while not limited to, 1. Studies of strong coupling QCD on the lattice computing the spectrum, decays, transition form factors and multidimensional structure of hadrons; 2. Applications of effective field theories to nuclear and hadronic properties; 3. Calculations of nuclear properties and their electroweak interactions; 4. Applications of scattering theory methods to the phenomenology of multi-hadron final states relevant for the spectroscopy program at JLab and worldwide; 5. Applications of QCD factorization to observables sensitive to single and multiple dimensional hadron structures and their extraction from data using QCD global analyses; 6. Extensions of all such studies for a future Electron-Ion Collider.

The Fellow is expected to lead and carry out a strong research program. A Ph.D. in theoretical nuclear or high energy physics and a strong publication record is required. You can find more about JLab and its Theory Center by clicking on: https://www.jlab.org/.

All applicants must upload (1) a cover letter, (2) your cv, (3) three letters of recommendations, (4) research interest, and (5) a publication list through this Academic Jobs Online post. The applicant must also apply to Jefferson Lab's online application tracking system for this position at https://www.jlab.org/job-openings with Job Id 12367. The deadline for applications is November 28, 2021.
