We Are:

Fermilab is America’s premier laboratory for particle physics and accelerator research, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. We support discovery science experiments in Illinois and South Dakota and in locations around the world, including deep underground mines in Canada, mountaintops in Arizona and Chile, and the South Pole.

The Particle Physics Division seeks candidates for an Associate Scientist position in the Astrophysics Department. The Associate Scientist will work on the SENSEI and Oscura low mass dark matter experiments with Charge-Coupled Devices (CCD). The candidate will also develop applications using this technology outside the field of Astrophysics. The Astrophysics Department seeks to create a welcoming environment where all members are encouraged to work towards our common scientific goals and everyone’s contributions are equally valued. You Will:

• Design and carry out independent research that furthers Fermilab’s mission particularly in the areas of direct dark matter search. • Develop the next generation of instrumentation using CCD and skipper-CCD for astrophysics and for applications outside the field of astrophysics. • Help develop current and future generations of STEM professionals. • Communicate progress and results to a broad and diverse audience. • Abide by and be responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position. • Contribute effectively within a diverse workforce and upholds Fermilab’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

We Are Looking For

• Ph.D. in Physics with at least 3 years of postdoctoral experience • Demonstrated research accomplishments • Demonstrated ability to overcome adversity, inside or outside a laboratory environment • Ability to work with and support a diverse base of scientific users • Experience in low mass direct dark matter experiments is desired. • Experience with scientific CCD and skipper-CCD experiments is desired. • Demonstrated expertise in instrumentation is highly desired.
