Stanford Impact Labs is accepting applications for its second annual postdoctoral fellowship program, beginning in fall 2022, in partnership with research teams across Stanford University. We are seeking a diverse pool of applicants who wish to join a team-based, collaborative community that values the different skills, expertise, and perspectives necessary to design, conduct, sustain, and disseminate public impact research.

This year’s postdoctoral positions are available with the following Stanford faculty addressing some of the most challenging social problems:

Professor Susan Athey, in the Graduate School of Business, is working with government partners to design and evaluate technological innovations that increase voter confidence in U.S. elections. Professor Susan Athey is the faculty director of The Golub Capital Social Impact Lab. The lab partners with leading social sector organizations to conduct research that promotes, develops, and applies innovative technological and best-practice solutions that span the lab domain areas of charitable giving, education, financial health, government services, health and worker training.

Dr. Anisha Patel, Associate Professor of Pediatrics, and Director of Partnerships for Research in Child Health is using community-based participatory research to develop and evaluate programs and policies aimed at reducing child health inequities for low-income and minority communities. One area of research focuses on collaborating with community-based organizations working with low-income, Latino immigrant families in California’s San Joaquin Valley to promote nutrition security. The team includes collaborators in the Stanford Graduate School of Business, policy experts at UC Nutrition Policy Institute, and community-based organizations that bring important lived experiences and expertise in public health, education, and grassroots organizing.

Professors Saad Gulzar and Soledad Artiz Prillaman, in the Department of Political Science, are working with policy partners to understand the determinants and impact of representative government in low- and middle-income countries. Professors Gulzar and Prillaman are the directors of the Inclusive Democracy and Development Lab, a collaborative community seeking to identify how and when the voices of marginalized peoples are represented in political institutions, what policies better ensure this representation, and how political inclusion impacts broader patterns of development.

One postdoctoral fellow will be selected to work with each of the respective faculty mentors and research teams.

The purpose of the fellowship program, and core to the mission of Stanford Impact Labs, is to enable a diverse community of scholars to engage in collaborative, impact-focused research, and to publish in competitive journals to elevate their own scholarship and public impact scholarship more broadly. Fellows will work across a portfolio of research projects in conjunction with the faculty and team to help advance research and partnerships that address specific societal problems, alongside their own research projects.

Postdoctoral fellows will also have the opportunity to engage with other fellows and with the broader Stanford Impact Labs (SIL) team and community, and will be invited to participate in select activities that contribute towards professional development and cohort-building, as well as the programs and goals of Stanford Impact Labs.
