Postdoctoral Associate – Division of Nutritional Sciences 
Cornell University 


The Division of Nutritional Sciences at Cornell University seeks a Postdoctoral Associate to focus on the development of novel point of need technologies that include lateral flow assays for nutrition, infection, and cancer in human samples, and quantification of nutrients as well as food safety/toxicology/mycotoxin testing in food samples. The candidate will be part of the Mehta Research Group (http://mehta.human.cornell.edu), and the project builds on our NutriPhone and FeverPhone technology (insight.cornell.edu/projects) and related work. 

The prospective applicant must be highly organized, personable, and motivated to work with others in a group setting that includes graduate and undergraduate students. The successful candidate will have a role in a collaborative enterprise with a team of biomedical engineers, global health professionals, infectious disease experts, as well as local partners throughout India, sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America. Additional opportunities in global health and for entrepreneurship may also be possible, depending on the candidate’s interest. 

This is a renewable one-year appointment depending on satisfactory job performance and availability of funding. 

The candidate will have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a related area of science or engineering. 

Preferred Requirements 
  • Expertise in any or all areas below: 
  • Proficiency in biomolecular assays and techniques, in particular lateral flow assay development, knowledge of nucleic acid methods including qPCR and LAMP. 
  • Experience with biological sample processing and/or quantification of nutrients, toxins such as mycotoxins in various types of samples including food 
  • Any hands-on experience with formulation, characterization, and HPLC or LC-MS/MS process development is a plus. 
  • Development of mobile apps, coding for microcontroller-based projects, basic modeling for 3D printed jobs, basic optics and image processing techniques is a plus. 
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) models and development of AI tools with applications in disease detection/diagnosis, personalized disease treatment, medical imaging to detect early signs of disease 
  • Hands-on experience with device engineering and fabrication, rapid diagnostics, and microfluidics

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  • Prior relevant work or industry experience.
  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
  • Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
  • Unique applicable skills.
