Harvey Mudd College
Visiting Assistant Professor of Physics
The Department of Physics of Harvey Mudd College, one of the Claremont Colleges, seeks two visiting assistant professors of physics for the 2022-23 academic year, beginning August 2022. These are full-time, non-tenure-track appointments with teaching as the primary responsibility. The department (https://physics.hmc.edu/) has thirteen full-time members; we graduate about 20 physics majors each year, the majority of whom go on to Ph.D. programs in physics and related fields.
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field. Teaching assignments are exclusively at the undergraduate level and will include introductory physics in small classroom and laboratory settings. Advanced undergraduate courses may be included in a visitor’s schedule subject to the visitor’s interests and the department’s needs. Expertise in electronics and experience in teaching laboratory electronics are of particular interest to us. Though research activities will not be within the primary responsibilities, candidates who envision conducting research through collaborations and/or work with students are encouraged to mention those plans when applying.
Questions should be directed to Professor Theresa W. Lynn, Chair, Department of Physics, lynn@hmc.edu. The physics department and the college place a high value on engaging students from a broad range of backgrounds, and candidates with a demonstrated commitment to reaching a diverse student body and broadening participation in physics are especially encouraged to apply.
To apply, please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the names/email addresses of three references through Academic Jobs Online. At least one reference, and preferably two, should be able to comment on teaching experience or potential. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
Harvey Mudd College enthusiastically welcomes applications from talented individuals from all cultural backgrounds. The College is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer committed to providing a workplace free of discrimination, harassment, and disrespectful or other unprofessional conduct. |
