Occupational Summary
The mission of the Center for Child and Family Policy is to contribute to solutions to important problems affecting today’s children and families, through an integrated system of scientific research, debate and dissemination, public service, and teaching. The Center emphasizes the bridge from research to policy and practice.

The Center for Child and Family Policy has received funding from the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) for an efficacy trial of a teacher professional development program in elementary schools in North Carolina and for a development project to create an online version of the teacher PD program for national dissemination.

This comprehensive teacher PD program provides English as a second language (ESL) and classroom teachers with a framework for collaboration, skills for implementing high-impact instructional strategies, and approaches for incorporating families’ cultural wealth into the classroom. The PD program is based on research supporting teacher PD and includes Teacher Workshops, ongoing implementation coaching, and weekly collaboration sessions between the ESL and classroom teachers.
