COVID-19 Vaccine Information
In accordance with Duke University policy, all University faculty, and staff members, regardless of work location, must receive and show documentation of full COVID-19 and flu vaccination status. People are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving their last shot in a vaccine series. University faculty and staff may apply for a medical or religious exemption, but anyone approved for an exemption will be subject to daily symptom monitoring, weekly surveillance testing, continued masking, and other protocols applicable to those who have not been vaccinated.
Program Information
Led by Duke University, the Athena institute focuses on developing edge computing with groundbreaking AI functionality that leverages next-generation communications networks to provide previously impossible services at reasonable cost. Bringing together a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, statisticians, legal scholars, and psychologists from seven universities, Athena’s goal is to transform the design, operation, and services of future mobile devices and networked systems.
Athena is committed to educating and developing our workforce, cultivating a diverse next generation of technical leaders who will ensure the ethical and fair use of AI. Together with its industrial and government partners, Athena will spearhead collaboration and knowledge transfer to maximize the translation of AI-empowered edge computing into new business opportunities. This a 2-year position, with opportunities for extension with funding obtained, which will work alongside our Education and Workforce Development team to ensure successful implementation of the Institute’s education mission.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Developing IRB protocols and ensuring compliance with research activities.
• Identifying and pursuing opportunities for engagement with industry, museum, and other community partners
• Writing summary and annual reports as well as contributing to publications
• Stewarding (designing, planning, implementing, and evaluating) signature programs including various k-12 initiatives, undergraduate research experiences, internship program, and Athena postdoctoral program
• Advancing Institute missions through public engagement including media and other venues
• Developing marketing and advertising materials for activities and programs
Skills
Required
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage several projects simultaneously
• Team player orientation combined with an ability to work proactively and independently
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to communicate effectively with a variety of constituents
• Ability to quickly master new software platforms and technologies
• Qualitative and Quantitative research
• Experience in advocacy for marginalized populations in STEM fields
Desired
• Graphic design skills and experience with software such as Canva and PowerPoint
• Experience managing social media platforms and websites
• Event program planning experience in an academic setting
