Lehigh University invites applications for a tenure track position in earth and environmental sciences at the assistant professor level. Successful candidates will have a PhD in an area of expertise that contributes to department strengths, and a record of scholarship that indicates that they will establish an internationally recognized externally funded research program. Candidates working across disciplinary boundaries or in emerging areas of earth and environmental sciences are encouraged to apply. Because Lehigh University and the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences have a strong commitment to the inclusion and engagement of our increasingly diverse student population, we seek candidates who will successfully serve as mentors and role models for students belonging to groups that are historically underrepresented in earth and environmental sciences.

Applicants should submit: a cover letter; curriculum vitae; a statement of research that describes past scholarly contributions and future research directions; a statement about teaching that describes prior experience, teaching philosophy, and courses that the candidate would want to teach or develop; a statement describing experience and vision for enhancing participation of historically underrepresented groups; and the names and contact information for three references. To ensure full consideration the application should be received by October 15, 2022. For additional information contact Peter Zeitler (Search Committee Chair, EES Dept., 1 West Packer Avenue, Bethlehem PA 18015-3001, peter.zeitler@lehigh.edu).

Lehigh’s Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences examines how the solid earth, oceans, atmosphere, and life interact to shape the world in which we live. Our research spans observational, experimental, theoretical, and numerical approaches, which we incorporate into field-based, experiential, multidisciplinary education. We seek to instill in our undergraduate and graduate students the skills needed to succeed in life, and this includes engagement with diverse perspectives and people. We also work to enhance earth-science literacy so that individuals and communities can make informed decisions about environmental and resource issues. The department expects to hire several additional faculty in the next five years.
