Position Description:

*** this position has been closed and new applications are no longer accepted. ***

Applications are invited for several postdoctoral research positions with the Chinese Space Station Telescope (CSST) Science Center at Peking University (PKU), Beijing, China. The CSST PKU Science Center is affiliated with the Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics (KIAA) and Department of Astronomy of School of Physics at PKU. The term of the appointment is for two years, with possible extension up to four years, subject to satisfactory performance.

We seek qualified applicants with expertise in photometric and spectroscopic analyses of galaxies and active galactic nuclei. Experience with HST imaging data or slitless spectroscopy is desired but not required. The successful candidates will work on CSST-related projects that develop science analysis tools and pipelines for the upcoming CSST mission. The postdocs are also expected to develop independent research programs and collaborations in partnership with PKU faculty, postdocs, and students. CSST, a flagship science mission of the China Manned Space Program, is a 2-m telescope with a field-of-view of 1.1 square degrees and angular resolution of 0.15 arcsec. Expected to be launched in 2024, CSST will survey 17,500 square degrees in imaging (seven filters) and slitless spectroscopic (R > 200) mode covering 255-1000 nm, which will enable a wide range of Galactic and extragalactic science. The CSST PKU Science Center is responsible for the planning and execution of science topics related to galaxies and active galactic nuclei.

Astrophysics at Peking University includes a total of 23 faculty, 35 postdoctoral fellows, 80 graduate students, 120 undergraduates, and many visiting scholars. KIAA is located on the historic grounds of PKU, has English as the working language, and regularly sponsors thematic workshops and conferences to provide a platform for national and international scientific exchanges.
