The Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology (KIPAC) at Stanford University and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory seeks recent Ph.D. scientists for postdoctoral fellowships focused on science opportunities with the Vera C. Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST). The KIPAC Rubin Fellowship offers the opportunity to develop an innovative and independent research program in any area of astronomy or cosmology relevant to Rubin and LSST.

KIPAC is deeply engaged in Rubin/LSST; fellows will benefit from expertise at KIPAC that includes the construction and integration of the LSST camera, leadership roles in the LSST Dark Energy Science Collaboration, significant roles in Rubin Operations, and management of the Rubin US Data Facility. Fellows will be encouraged to engage with one or more LSST Science Collaborations as well as with the broad Rubin/LSST community at KIPAC.

Fellows will also benefit from a vibrant scientific community that spans many areas of astrophysics (https://kipac.stanford.edu/research/senior-member-research-interests). KIPAC members are involved in a broad array of complementary projects (https://kipac.stanford.edu/research/projects

The KIPAC Rubin fellowship will have a term of three years. The position offers excellent salary and benefits (https://postdocbenefits.stanford.edu), including support for research and travel expenses. KIPAC offers significant computational resources for theory, simulation, and data analysis. KIPAC also provides the opportunity to participate in cross-disciplinary activities through Stanford Data Science and the SLAC Machine Learning Program.

Additional opportunities at Stanford and SLAC (including some with earlier deadlines) are also listed on our webpage: https://kipac.stanford.edu/join-us/postdoctoral-opportunities-kipac.

Candidates should have a recent Ph.D. in astronomy or physics (generally granted in 2020 or later) or expect to receive the degree prior to starting their appointment. Application materials should be submitted at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/22996.

Candidates should provide a curriculum vitae including a publication list, a 3-page statement of research interests and plans, including plans for engaging with Rubin/LSST, and arrange to have at least three letters of recommendation submitted to the same site. We encourage applicants to follow the structure of the AAS advice on the contents of CVs and research statements: https://jobregister.aas.org/postdoc-application-guidelines. We also encourage applicants, as a component of their research statement, to discuss their experience with or commitment to engaging in mentoring, outreach, teaching, public policy, fostering inclusive environments, or activities that diversify the field.

The deadline for applications is Friday November 4, 2022. Late applications will be considered at the discretion of the search committee. More information about KIPAC can be found at http://kipac.stanford.edu/. KIPAC is committed to an inclusive work environment and encourages applications from candidates who will diversify the workforce in astrophysics and cosmology.
