Position Description: |
PhD position in the Theory of Monitored Quantum Dynamics We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to work on theoretical
aspects related to the physics of open, monitored quantum many-body systems.
Research activities may include: - The development of analytical approaches for monitored quantum systems
(replica approach for quantum circuits or continuous measurement models) - Numerical simulations of dynamically constrained and/or higher dimensional
quantum systems subject to frequent measurements - The characterisation of measurement-induced quantum phases and phase
transitions, in particular in view of universal aspects of the dynamics The position will be embedded in the Cluster of Excellence „ML4Q — Matter
and Light for Quantum Computing“ which is funded by the German Research
Foundation (DFG). The successful candidate will work as part of the research
group lead by Dr. Michael Buchhold. The group participates in an active and
vibrant research environment, including two collaborative research centres
(CRC 1238, CRC 183) and the cluster of Excellence ML4Q. Involvement in
ongoing local and international collaborations will be strongly encouraged.
Candidates need to have a strong background in theoretical many-body physics
(e.g., open quantum systems, nonequilibrium statistical physics or quantum
information theory), a strong academic record and commitment. The position is available starting in January 2023 on a part-time basis with 29,87 (75%)
working hours per week. Review of applications will begin November 30 2022.
The University of Cologne is committed to equal opportunities and diversity. Women are
especially encouraged to apply and will be considered preferentially in accordance
with the Equal Opportunities Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Landesgleichstellungsgesetz –
LGG NRW). We also expressly welcome applications from people with disabilities / special
needs or of equal status.
