The High Energy Physics Division at the Argonne National Laboratory has a postdoctoral opening in the Intensity Frontier Group, focusing on precision muon physics. The Division performs cutting-edge research facilitated through advanced detector development, high-performance supercomputing (HPC), a superconducting test magnet facility and innovative electronic and mechanical engineering. Our group has recognized roles within the two international collaborations of the Muon g-2 and Mu2e experiments at Fermilab.

The successful candidate will focus on the future Mu2e experiment through testing and commissioning of detector components and simulation and analysis of important backgrounds. Some participation in the ongoing Muon g-2 experiment with emphasis on data analysis and operations or contributing to our neutrino research is an option.

Position Requirements

Applicants must have recently received a Ph.D. in particle physics, nuclear physics, or relevant subject with 0 to 3 years of experience or equivalent

Considerable skills to develop and interpret physics and background simulations, to perform measurements and to interpreting the data

Ability to use programming languages for data analysis or for modeling system performance

Demonstration of problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

Ability to produce scientific reports and to present ideas and proposals to scientists and engineers

Experience with detector systems and/or electronics is desirable

Contribute effectively within a diverse workforce and supports Argonne’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Appointment will be for two years, with the possibility of an extension for a 3rd year depending on funding and performance.
