The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a new faculty member in our experimental neutrino physics group to join our tenured or tenure-stream faculty. In addition to an appointment in the Department of Physics and Astronomy http://www.physicsandastronomy.pitt.edu, any appointment will also be associated with the Pittsburgh Particle physics, Astrophysics, and Cosmology Center (PITT PACC). This appointment, which is subject to budgetary approval, would begin in the fall term 2023, or thereafter.

Present HEP faculty members have expertise in collider and neutrino experiments; applicants who can enhance or extend our existing program are required. The focus of the search is on experimentalists with demonstrated abilities in neutrino physics research. A PhD in physics or astrophysics or related field is required. The Pitt neutrino group has a strong effort in neutrino physics including focus on detailed studies of neutrino interactions with matter, accelerator based neutrino oscillations that have produced intriguing indications of CP violation in the lepton sector and BSM physics. Applicants would be expected to attract external funding and to pursue a creative, independent and broad-based research program. The successful candidate is encouraged to initiate new directions within the neutrino physics field or closely related field, as well as maintain some cohesion with current neutrino group efforts. The ability to teach effectively at both the graduate and undergraduate levels is essential to the position. The successful candidate should also be able to interact with other members of our Department as well as connect with the broader scientific community in Pittsburgh.

To ensure full consideration, complete applications should be received by December 31, 2022. However, applications will be accepted for the duration of the search. Applicants can apply online at: Job Description - Faculty Professor Assistant - Full-Time (22007677) (taleo.net). Candidates should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, publication list, a statement explaining your research accomplishments and future plans, a statement discussing your teaching experience, interests, and approaches, and a statement addressing your views and ideas about advancing the university’s goal of recruiting and supporting a diverse student population. Three letters of recommendation should be emailed to slogan@pitt.edu. The University of Pittsburgh is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer and values equality of opportunity, human dignity and diversity. EEO/AA/M/F/Vets/Disabled.
