Position Opening Announcement
The National Institute for Fusion Science (NIFS) in Japan is pleased to announce the opening of the following position. We would like to request your assistance in identifying suitable applicants for this position.
1. Positions and number of recruitments Professor or Associate Professor in Fusion Materials Science Field, 1 person (Term of appointment: five years, Reappointment may be considered if the performance during the five-year term is deemed sufficiently satisfactory.)

3. Qualifications (Requirements) 1) Hold a Ph.D. degree. 2) Have experience in this field. 3) Have a strong interest in promoting domestic and international collaboration. 4) Have an incentive to cultivate human resources.
4. Deadline for applications 17:00 JST, Thursday, 12 January 2023.
5. Appointment Period As early as possible upon selection.
6. Selection procedure 1) Appropriate applicants will be selected by the Administrative Council of NIFS. 2) Applicants will be selected based on application documents, and an interview will be requested If necessary. If the interview is conducted, the interview date will be Friday, 17 February 2023. Details will be sent to those who pass the document screening by e-mail by Thursday, 2 February 2023.
7. Documents to be submitted The following documents (1) - (6) must be submitted via e-mail (see Section 8. for e-mail address). For a letter of recommendation (7), please follow the instructions in Section 8 "How to Submit a letter of recommendation". (1) Curriculum Vitae: Specify the possible starting date, attach a passport-size photograph, list the applicant's academic degree(s) held, and provide an e-mail address. (2) Applicant's research history summarized in two pages of A4 or letter-size paper. (3) Future research and cultivate human resources plans at NIFS summarized in two pages of A4 or letter-size paper. The National Institute for Fusion Science will reorganize into a Unit research system from FY2023. Researchers will belong to one of the Units to conduct research. In the future research and cultivate human resources plans, please select one of the Units you wish to belong to (Meta-hierarchy dynamics / Structure formation and sustainability / Phase space turbulence / Plasma quantum processes / Transports in plasma multi-phase matter system / Sensing and intellectualization / Plasma apparatus / Complex global simulation / Ultrahigh-flux concerting materials / Applied superconductivity and cryogenics), the research plan in the Unit, and desired position (Professor or Associate professor). For the research themes and keywords of each Unit, please refer to "About the Unit" (https://www.nifs.ac.jp/en/about/org/Unit/UnitTheme.html) on the website. (4) List of Publications: · For all joint publications, the name(s) of the joint author(s) must be printed. · For each paper, be certain to indicate whether it was reviewed by referees. · Separate from this list, summaries of the main papers, including the applicant's contributions, must be described on separate pages. (any format) **NOTE** The List of Publications must be created in accordance with the document "Creating the List of Publications" to be provided by NIFS. (https://www.nifs.ac.jp/en/about/recruit/) (5) List of achievements other than papers: Please describe achievements in competitive research funds (specify whether you were the principal investigator or an associate investigator), patents, awards received, etc. (6) Copies of research papers: About five main works (books/articles). On A4 or letter-size paper. Photocopies are acceptable. (7) Letters of recommendation from two or more researchers should be submitted. It is advisable to include letters of recommendation from foreign researchers. These documents should be in any format.
All documents must be prepared on separate pages. Documents other than the curriculum vitae should be printed on A4 or letter-size paper. Also, be certain to print the applicant's name in the upper right corner on all documents.
