SISSA, the Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati in Trieste, invites expressions of interest for a faculty position from outstanding scientists at any level of their career, active in the broad field of theoretical and computational condensed-matter and materials physics.

SISSA is the first graduate school in Italy, and still one of the very few serving only graduate students, whose scholarships are entirely funded by the school budget. The working environment is truly international, with 30% of students and 50% of postdocs coming from abroad. English is the standard language used for any scientific activity in the school and our administrative staff are also fluent in the language.

An expression of interest should include:

a cover letter, including a description of the candidate’s motivation to move to SISSA,
a professional CV, including a link to the candidate’s ORCID profile, containing an updated list of publications,
a motivated statement of the academic level (assistant/ associate/ full professor) the candidate is aspiring to,
the contact info of three scientists who have agreed to be contacted to help us evaluate the candidate’s scientific profile,
a research statement.

Although the search is not restricted to any given research area, we particularly encourage applications from scientists active in one of the following fields:

numerical approaches to the quantum many-body problem, including stochastic and artificial intelligence methods,
theory and numerical simulation of soft and glassy matter,
high-performance and high-throughput computing approaches to materials physics,
materials design for renewable energy and green chemistry (other technological applications will also be considered with interest),
quantum computing, with emphasis on quantum algorithms for the quantum many-body problem and/or for molecular and materials simulations.

This call will remain open for no less than two months from its publication and up until when a decision will be made about the actual opening of the position. Expressions of interest should be written in English, packaged in a single pdf file and sent exclusively via this web service.
