Experimental Condensed Matter, Optical, or Biological Physics
The Physics Department at the University of Oregon anticipates making several faculty hires over the next few years in diverse research areas. We have approval to hire one tenure-track position with a focus in experimental Condensed Matter, Optical, or Biological Physics at the rank of assistant professor to start in the 2011-2012 academic year. Pending the availability of additional funding, another position might be filled concurrently within this search. In addition,for which exceptional candidates outside the targeted search areas, including theorists, may also be considered. Applicant must have a PhD in physics or a related discipline and an outstanding record of research accomplishments. Successful candidates will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to conduct vigorous research programs. Close interaction with groups in other departments, in interdisciplinary research institutes including the Materials Science Institute, the Oregon Center for Optics, and the Institute for Molecular Biology, and in statewide initiatives like the Oregon Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Initiative is encouraged. Opportunities also exist for collaborations with industry, enhanced by the university‘s newly constructed micro- and nano-fabrication and materials characterization facilities. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and start-up funds will be available. The Department and University seek to meet the needs of dual career couples.
