The Department of Physics proposes to appoint an Associate Professor (equivalent to Lecturer) or Professor of Cosmology with effect from 1 October 2018 or as soon thereafter as possible. The successful candidate will also be offered a Tutorial Fellowship at St Peter's College, under arrangements described in the further particulars. The combined University and College salary will be according to experience on a scale from £45,562 p.a. plus a housing allowance of £8,484 p.a. and access to a joint equity scheme. An allowance of £2,626 p.a. would be payable upon award of Full Professor title.

The Associate Professor will join a world leading research team studying the physics of the early universe, the growth and morphology of large scale structure and the nature of fundamental forces. This effort brings together theoretical and observational cosmologists who are working on a range of different topics, from simulating large scale structure, galaxy formation and astrophysical plasmas as well as developing new theoretical tools to understand dark matter, dark energy and the nature of cosmological gravity. There is a vigorous activity analysing current cosmological data sets and members of the department are playing a leading role in preparation for the next generation of cosmological surveys (specifically the Simons Observatory and Stage 4 CMB research, the LSST, Euclid and SKA project).

The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in cosmology, or a related subject, and will have a proven record of high quality creative research in cosmology at an international level. They will be expected to develop a world-leading research programme, to provide excellent teaching at undergraduate and graduate level, and participate in the administration of St Peter's College and the Physics Department.
