Description:

The Department of Sociology in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University invites applications for a tenure track position in the fields of gender, sex, race and ethnicity at the assistant professor level, to commence autumn semester 2018. We seek candidates who are well-grounded in relevant theoretical approaches to the study of race and/or gender diversity, their intersectionalities and related inequalities in modern society, with an emphasis on one of our core areas of departmental strength – gender, race, work, and inequality; population and health; crime and community; or comparative social change. The assistant professor will maintain vigorous research programs, actively seek external funding, contribute to both graduate and undergraduate teaching, and provide service to the department and the profession. It is expected that this person will help us build links to interdisciplinary research centers and programs at the university.


This position is part of a Faculty Cluster Hiring Initiative launched by the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University to achieve greater diversity in our professorial ranks, foster an inclusive university community, and promote research and teaching on topics central to race, ethnicity, gender, sex and disparities in modern society. Qualifications:


Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in Sociology or a related field, by the start of employment (start datecanticipated to be no later than August 16, 2018), and to present evidence of excellence in teaching and research. Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.
