Position Description:    

The Computer Science and Engineering Department at The University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for five tenure-track Assistant Professor positions across all areas of Computer Science and Engineering and four tenured Associate/Full Professor positions in the broad area of machine learning, artificial intelligence, data science, cyber security, and digital circuits & systems design. The CSE department is especially looking for candidates for senior positions in core areas of computer engineering (CpE), such as cyber-physical systems, Internet-of-things, integrated circuits, computer architecture, and networks. The tentative start date of all positions will be in Fall 2024. Fields of interest include but are not limited to natural language processing, biomedical applications, computer systems, and hardware security, software security in particular security issues related to artificial generative AI, programming languages, and program optimization.

Our key objective is to hire faculty members with outstanding qualifications, who share the university’s core values of high standards of excellence in teaching, innovative research, and service, combined with fostering promoting participation of all student groups. A major emphasis will be potential research collaboration within and outside the department.

Duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, building and leading a team of Ph.D. student researchers, developing an externally funded research program that yields top-tier publications, and professional service within UTA and the research community.

Candidates must have earned (by the start date) a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related area. Candidates for Assistant Professor must have demonstrated exceptional research promise. Candidates for Full Professor must be leading their research area. All candidates must show a strong commitment to teaching excellence.

The Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department is ranked #60 in the nation by csrankings.org (as of September 2023, based on average 2018-23 publication counts) and several areas are ranked in the top 70, including high-performance computing (#14), operating systems (#21), databases (#31), computer architecture (#46), embedded & real-time systems (#51), AI, machine learning & data mining (#54), software engineering (#54), mobile computing (#59), and computer security (#79). In the last few years students and faculty in the department have received distinguished paper awards from prestigious conferences, including SOSP, PLDI, ISCA, EuroSys, USENIX ATC, ASE, SIGMETRICS, ASPLOS, CCS, MOBICOM, MobiSys, CIDR, CIKM, ECML PKDD, ICDE, ICDM, ISSRE, ISSTA, IUI, PSIVT, SIGMOD, SIGCHI, and VLDB. The CSE department is home to 45 tenured/tenure-track and 27 teaching faculty members, including one ACM fellow, four IEEE fellows, two AIMBE fellows, one AFOSY YIP awardee, and eleven NSF CAREER awardees. The CSE department’s annual research expenditure exceeds $8.3M in 2023. Over $11M research grants have been awarded to the CSE department between 2022 and 2023.
